Hey y’all, thanks for stopping by!  I’m Brittany, and I started this blog as a journal for fun and to record my hobbies, goals and travel, and to share my life with my family and friends.  I’m an engineer and I’ve lived in Houston, Texas, for the past 10 years.  I went to school in San Antonio, Texas and grew up as an Air Force Brat moving very often.

I’m married to my biggest supporter, David, who you’ll see mentioned often in the blog.  We like to do most of the same activities and enjoy spending time together, so most of the events I participate in he does as well.

I called this blog the Fit Formula because there are so many daily decisions and various aspects that impact one’s fitness, that I couldn’t categorize them all, but instead think of them as a formula – exercise, clean eating, and a little indulgence here and there are all part of it.  The formula is a continual balance and is a little different for everyone.  My passion for fitness started in 2006 when I joined my company’s cycling team and participated in a bike ride from Houston to Austin.  I was coming from a less-than-active college experience (read: freshman 20lbs) and wanted to find a hobby that got me outdoors and meeting new friends.  I quickly got hooked on cycling and even did a few races and time trials.  When I met my husband, who also cycles but truly loves running, I started to run and completed my first marathon.  Since we’ve raced a number of half marathons as well as shorter distance runs, and we are members of a running group year-round.  With running and cycling under my belt, I decided to try triathlons, and have worked my way from a sprint triathlons up to the full ironman distance over several years.  My race recaps can be found here.  I’m a little bit of an endurance junkie when time permits, I just love a good training plan, and I enjoy the occasional yoga class here and there.

I also love the outdoors and would be outside hiking very often if my lifestyle allowed it!  A lot of the travel David and I do is around hiking.

And lastly, I love healthy eats!  I’ve found a lot of enjoyment in cooking.  I’m still not at the point where I’m whipping up my own recipes, but I do like to customize on the healthy side.

    1. Awesome – it would be great to meet y’all sometime!! So nice to find other active girls in Houston. Who knows, we’ve probably been at a lot of the same running events already anyway 🙂

  1. Hello! I am moving to Houston in July and am excited to find your blog! I actually lived in Houston a few years ago and am moving back from CA. Are there any races coming up in the area? If so, I would love to know whats going on in H-Town. Take care 🙂

    1. Hey! Thanks for stopping by and welcome back to Texas 🙂 What kind of races are you looking for – running, tri? There are not very many long runs in the summer (as you know it gets hot!), but there are a lot of sprint triathlons and some shorter runs. I’ll have to check out your blog – noticed you have protein pancakes, my #1 weekend breakfast!

    2. Well, I participate in the Sand Crab 5k in Galveston, TX, every year. It’s at night in August (so less hot…ok, a little less) and on sand. It’s a lot of fun. But I think this year, they moved it to September.

  2. Hey Brittany!
Just found your blog. Also, a Houstonion (and native at that). I’m a runner, but have been thinking about going in to triathlons. I’m training for my first marathon, but because of my back, I’ve been doing ALOT of swimming.

  3. Hi there!

I have a quick question about your blog. Could you please email me when you get a chance? Thank you!

  4. Hi Brittany,

I work at Houston Methodist Hospital here in Houston. I would like to talk to you about a opportunity. I look forward to hearing from you. – Molly
