The other highlights of 2016 included Thanksgiving with David’s family in San Luis Obispo and then Christmas in Hawaii with my family. Boy are we lucky to have such fun experiences!
Thanksgiving in SLO (Arroyo Grande)
David’s brother-in-law and sister live in San Diego, so we decided to meet in the middle [of CA], and his parents flew in from Texas. We found a great VRBO for the week (here) with a hot tub, outdoor patio with fire pit and ping pong table. Our only complaint was no washer/dryer. We were just outside of SLO in the farm land of Arroyo Grande, a little closer to Pismo Beach. There was a grocery store/Trader Joe’s within ten minutes, so we cooked most of our meals at home and enjoyed family time.
We hiked with Laura & Bryan to Bishops Peak, not to strenuous but decent – 4 miles and 1200’ of elevation and great views.
We hit up Pismo Beach to play in the sand and watch the gorgeous sunset.
And David and I did our one and only race for 2016 (gasp!) for a donation of $5 each. It was the Pismo Turkey Trot fun run, and wasn’t timed. I managed 1oK, unexpectedly.
Back at the house, we had several ping pong matches, s’mores nights and hot tub + wine.
Thanksgiving was simple (I like it that way!) and we each made a dish and had an outdoors meal before the Breauxs watched the Aggie game.
If you go: Bliss Cafe (hippy & vegan – get the Thai tacos), Big Sky Cafe (we didn’t go but highly recommended), Bishop’s Peak hike, Avila Beach walk, Opolo winery for pizza & wine pairings on the patio, Barrel House Brewery for beers & corn hole, and Pismo Beach pier at sunset. Some spots that we didn’t get to this time but are really fun are: Morro Bay, Hearst Castle, and Cambria for a nice dinner.
