Hydrating Clementine Creamsicle Smoothie

I saw something interesting on the news in the office break room today – that men generally compete just to be able to compete, but women calculate their odds of winning before considering competing since they don’t even want to compete if they know they aren’t competitive.  So true!  My own pride often gets in the way and I get scared I won’t be successful in whatever the activity is, however, so many guys I know will race or try new things without worrying so much beforehand.  What’s to lose?  That’s something to remember when I have a hard time stepping out of my comfort zone or doing something I’m not great at yet (i.e. kiting!).  Of course, there’s the flip side that a lot of guys compete when it isn’t at all necessary… Okay, okay, enough gender-difference thoughts for the day.

Anyway, could you tell my other half was out of town at a bachelor party last weekend?  When the husband’s away the wife will play bike!  I missed him of course, but was happy to bike and get a few needed errands done while he was out.   He did come home and was awfully cute saying he couldn’t wait for healthy food since they ate so much junk food & beer on the trip – I have slowly brainwashed him over the years Smile   A few clean eats from earlier this week: Mexican tofu scramble with cumin/coriander/turmeric and black beans and spinach, served with avo & salsa in a brown rice tortilla, and an arugula salad with a rice/bean burger.

For breakfast this morning I blended up a great, hydrating clementine smoothie.  We’ve had those Cutie brand clementines at our house and they’re great snacks; plus a little extra Vitamin C  never hurts.  I’ve been a bit dehydrated lately, so I used coconut water for this one.

Orange Creamsicle Smoothie

Adapted from OSG recipe

  • 1 c coconut water
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2-3 clementines, peeled
  • 1-2T coconut milk
  • Optional: 1 T chia seed, 1T flax seed, 1 carrot, 1 stick celery (I added all of them!)

 

For the record, if I make a smoothie for breakfast, I often drink it plus a granola bar or small waffle.  I eat a lot in the AM after I work out!
